Jiro began his career in the animation industry with Ocean Productions Inc. in Vancouver where he produced English language adaptations of numerous Japanese animated television series and feature-length films. Working in this industry brought Jiro into contact with the intriguing world of anime fandom in North America. In order to satisfy his curiosity of the highly participatory nature of anime fandom, Jiro decided to pursue an M.A. degree through the Media Production program at Ryerson University.
Jiro produced his first documentary film titled “Leaving Mundania” as part of his investigation into North American fan culture. The film is an ethnographic exploration of the lives of anime fans who participate in cosplay, or “costume play” as they attend Anime North, the largest anime fan convention in Canada.
Jiro now resides in Toronto, and he works as a Production Coordinator at Guru Animation Studio.
